What is this initiative?

The Pandemic Preparedness initiative proposes an enhanced Access to Pandemic Tools Accelerator (APT-A) to address shortcomings in the global pandemic response architecture.

Building on lessons from COVID-19, this framework expands funding for diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, and health systems while tackling economic and structural inequalities.

About the Initiative

Leading global health experts, including Kaushik Basu (former Chief Economist of the World Bank), Lawrence Gostin (Director of the O'Neill Institute at Georgetown), and Nicole Hassoun (founder of Global Health Impact), released a draft report entitled Pandemic Preparedness and Response: Beyond the WHO's Access to COVID-19 Tools Accelerator.

The report proposes an enhanced APT-A framework with expanded funding for diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, and health systems, plus two additional pillars for economic assistance and structural inequality reduction.
